Last Thursday the kids school had a Veterans Day assembly that the kids were encouraged to invite anyone they knew that was a Veteran. My grandpa served in the Korean War as part of the Navy. I was excited but also nervous to invite him. He has Alzheimer's and I was worried he would get anxious or all of a sudden get confused about where he was. But all went well and he was like a kid in a candy store. They had the Vet's walk out in a precession as the audience stood and clapped. He just lit up. He is very proud of the time he served and is not shy about it. He was great during the assembly and stood and sang the Navy song with the fourth graders. And as he was walking out in the precession he saw Caitlin and stopped to shake her hand, which started the rest of her class wanting to shake all the Vet's that came behind him. It was so cute and he was so happy. He even told Dave on the way home that the day had been a "Good Day." Which is rare in its self because he is usually very nervous when he is away from home. I am sure glad he had a good day. I love my grandparents.
